Be sure to keep this larger piece and use it as a template in the next step. Or drill a hole and use fish tape to find structure. Use a stud finder to locate studs and find an empty bay to install the fan.

Additionally consider cutting a larger hole beyond that of the vent hole so you have room to work on the vent and so you can see exactly what you re doing. Install the vent and seal the underside of the vent flange with roofing grade sealant caulk. Slide the pipe into the hole. Go to where the ceiling access hatch is located.

Finally install the hood.
